Urban Fantasy Top Pick

Ilona Andrews is absolutely one of my favourite writers. Her stories are complex, dangerous and always different. The Edge series is part fantasy with a strongly believable magic element. Edge characters are tough, dangerous and nobody you'd want to meet on a dark night. [KM134] brings back Kaldar Mar, gambler, lawyer, thief, and spy. Excellent!  Top Pick!
Ellen Connor, aka Anne Aguirre and Carrie Lofty, finishes the fabulous Dark Age Dawning trilogy in [KM131]. Pen uses her magic to save the world. Tru's a shapechanger who doesn't care about saving anything. That changes when he sees Pen in a slave truck. An awesome series. I love it. Top Pick!
Diana Pharaoh Francis' Horngate Witches is an amazing series with a warrior under a magical compulsion and a whole crew of compelling characters. Do start with [KM143A], as the world grows with each book in the series. [KM143] Max is stuck working for Scooter, while Alexander is stuck protecting Horngate. Non stop excitement. Top Pick!
Jennifer Estep's Mythos Academy has a great new story in [KM139]. Set in a magical school, there is lots of adventure as Gwen tries to stay alive and actually understand magic. An excellent read from a superb storyteller. Top Pick!

Fantasy Top Picks

P.C. Hodgell's [KM137] is a new Godstalker Chronicle story, with Jame is still in training. An awesome series, fantasy at it's absolute best. The first books are available as omnibus editions if you missed them first time round. Top Pick!
Mercedes Lackey has a new collection of Valdemar stories. [KM147] has amazing writers and some very clever glimpses into Valdemar.
Laura Anne Gilman's Paranormal Scene Investigations have a motley crew working together to learn investigating. I love the dynamics between them, and find the series truly fascinating. In [KM146], Bonnie and the team look into the murder of a fae.

Urban Fantasy Notes

Robin D. Owens has a new Mystic Circle story. [KM133] has Amber, a curse breaker, in more trouble than she wants. Owens is one of my favourite fantasy writers. Her stories all have incredible characters.
Robin D. Owens also has a new Celta collection. [KM135] tells us what happens to Tinne's wife, to the first ship, and to Willow's mother. A lovely read. Top Pick!
Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians get another action packed outing. [KM81] has the same characters, more mystery and a solid world. Great new addition to our keeper shelves. Ask us for Darkness Dawns,  the first book, as it's best to read them in order. Top Pick!
Darynda Jones begins a new series with [KM33]. A grim reaper is a new heroine to me, but this promises to be a truly interesting series.
Kristen Painter's House of Comarr is gritty, exciting, Urban Fantasy, with a strong story and a varied cast. [KM124] has Chrysabelle in deep trouble as she hunts for her brother, and the Ring of Sorrows.
Nancy A. Collins' Golgotham is a magical ghetto in New York, where Tate, an artist, finds excitement and trouble. I really liked [KM141A] and in [KM141], Tate's sorcerer boyfriend gets caught in a riot. Very good reads.
Nalini Singh finishes the Royal House of Shadows Quartet in [KM79], as Hades comes in for a shake-up. This fabulous writer brings us another winner as she creates a new couple with fresh gifts and dark pasts. This can be read as a stand alone story. Top Pick!

Fantasy Notes

David Chandler wraps up his excellent Ancient Blades trilogy in [KM136]. Malden the thief is a failure as a saviour, but fortunately for him, his companions are smart and capable.
Gaie Sebold isn't a writer I know, but [KM123] looks like great fun.
Kelly McCullough is an accomplished writer, and her new Fallen Blade series is excellent. In [KM126] Aral has an unusual partner, a job that has disappeared, and a fondness for expensive whiskey. A strong, clever, interesting fantasy with dark edges.
Maria V. Snyder's [KM145]  begins a new series. Avry of Kazan has a healer who is hunted by her people and their enemies. A strong, interesting writer.
Christopher Paolini's [KM511] is the fourth in his wildly popular Inheritance Cycle

Gini Koch's Kitty Katt series, with jellyfish from outer space and killer alligators, is over the top entertainment, and great fun. [KM150] has Kitty's life complicated by an alien baby, as well as someone trying to kill her. Top Pick!
John G. Hemry's (aka John Campbell) [KM161] is the first Sgt. Stark story. This is a VERY BIG OOPS, as last month we listed [KM161A] as first in the series. It's first rate military SF, and excellent to have it back in print.

Science Fiction Notes

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson have [KM155], first book in the new Hell Hole trilogy.
Mercedes Lackey writes with Steve Libby in this new Secret World Chronicle. [KM156] has robotic warriors breach the barrier between worlds, and are now out to conquer Earth. What can the superheroes do?
Brett Patton's [KM158] is the first Armor Wars story. An interesting twist on warfare as Matt bonds with a biomechanical. Great fun, but what is the cost?
